Hi! I'm Matthew, a fourth year computer science student at the University of Waterloo. My interests include running, basketball, and competitive programming.
"If you're the best, you're in the wrong place."
I find my peers' opinions on this quote especially interesting. My friends who are high academic achievers tend to disagree with this quote. What if you're the best in the world? Then where are you meant to be? One laughed and candidly commented "I like being the best!"
I can relate -- being the best among peers feels great. I'm competitive; I love to win. Yet there's a sense of complacency and satisfaction, rather than the hunger and drive associated with challenging myself to grow. I'd like to be around people that I can learn from, can compete with, and be motivated by.
